Dear Members and Nonmembers,

I want to thank you on behalf of the IWWG Board of Directors for your support of our fundraising efforts in the last quarter of 2021. I am pleased to let you know how much of a difference your efforts made as you joined our circle of giving.

So many of you supported our Sage Writers Series that we exceed our fundraising goals for that program by 130 %. Wow!!

For our auction, thanks to those of you who donated services and handcraft items to be auctioned and to those of you who bid and helped make the auction successful. While we didn’t achieve our overall financial goal, we did enjoy your engagement and plan to continue with an auction in 2022 a bit earlier in the calendar as several of you asked for it to be timed to accommodate holiday shopping and delivery. Special kudos to Board Member Cynthia Manick who brought in a wonderful array of new businesses to the auction.

But the greatest support came for our crowdfunding efforts on five very special projects, and I want to share the results with you:

Open Mics – Thanks to all of you and the fundraising leadership and promotion by Board Member Trish Hopkinson, our Open Mics are fully funded for 2022. Amazing!

Free Writes – Thanks to all of you and the fundraising leadership and promotion by Free Writes host and coordinator, Leslie Neustadt, our Free Writes are virtually fully funded for 2022.

That both these programs, attended by so many, are now fully funded for the year would not have happened without your support. Every donation, however small, made it happen.

Sponsoring Interns for the 2022 Summer Conference – Thanks to your support and the fundraising leadership of Executive Director Michelle Miller, we raised 76% of our goal and will continue to look for small sponsorships to bring the full cohort of interns to the conference. We hope you’ll not only get to meet some of these wonderful young women but also have the opportunity to hear them read their work.

The Guild’s Sunshine Fund – This year we opened what we are calling our Sunshine Fund, setting aside funds to help members in financial need attend workshops, retain membership and take part in online or in-person events throughout the year. We raised $1,600. Thank you!

Lastly, we raised 106% of our goal to help Afghan women tell their stories. Under the leadership of IWWG member Pamela Varkony (on left in photo), so many of you responded to help us create an anthology in 2022 and also to sponsor 2-3 Afghan women writers to our July conference for the weekend. At the conference, Pam is going to host a salon that you can attend to meet the women and gain a better understanding of the situation in Afghanistan and the lives of women there then and now. Thanks to Pam and to all of you for your support of this important initiative.

And there was more! We had matching gift donations totaling $4,500 from an outside donor and a few Guild members and year-end donations that brought our overall total for our fundraising efforts to just over $28,000.

We know that you have many organization that you can choose to support so we are deeply grateful that so many of you chose to support the Guild in 2021.

Wishing you each a healthy, creative and peaceful 2022,

Cathleen O’Connor, President, IWWG Board of Directors
