Superhero Stylish Woman
Like Superhero Pregnant Woman in Jessy Randall's poem Superhero Stylish Woman's senses are more acute than others.
But instead of smell, it's her sense of style that's particularly refined,
Especially when confronted with a difficult sartorial challenge.
It doesn't matter, if she's combining high designer pieces with low fast-fashion or heirloom with casual her skills are undeniable.
Why can't she persuade more people today that this is a useful super power,
Such as forcing the truth out of someone or reading their mind?
The closet beckons her with hidden inspiration believing she'll always unleash its bounty and pull out its lovely wares,
Then put them on and offer her services to those who seek her out for style and shopping tips.
Super Duper
She’s no superhero.
No cape, no powers out of the ordinary.
She can’t leap tall buildings or fly.
In fact, she has problems walking.
The vertigo, you know
and we won’t mention
the whole clumsiness thing.
Unless you count
how easy she is to talk to
how she’s the one person it’s okay
to ugly cry in front of
how you can be silent with her
and not feel awkward
how she’s the one you know
will understand the part you feel
most ashamed of and make you welcome.
VICTORIA, I completely honor your sartorial superpower! One of my college teachers--I don't remember if it was a M-W-F or T-Th class--never wore the same outfit twice for the entire semester. What I hear, though, is your power of sartorial creativity, and who cares about sartorial variety if it ain't stylish! I love the tongue-in-cheek tone of your piece. THANKS for helping getting the energy going here in this Writer Share forum, for folks to post their writings :)
BRENDA, your poem is so tight. My fave line, tonally and musically: "The vertigo, you know"--and I really admire this line break: "will understand the part you feel," underscoring emotional IQ as a superpower--and also that it's the most important superpower, given that the poem closes there. Beautiful.
