Our IWWG Bi-Monthly ZOOM Open Mic is thrilled to feature author Lisa Braxton reading from her debut novel, The Talking Drum. Lisa is an Emmy-nominated former television journalist and the author of the debut novel, The Talking Drum, published by Inanna Publications in May 2020. The Talking Drum is the story of three young couples in the early 1970s and how they’re affected when an urban redevelopment project takes over an immigrant neighborhood. Lisa is also an essayist and short story writer. Her stories and essays have appeared in Vermont Literary Review, Black Lives Have Always Mattered, Chicken Soup for the Soul and The Book of Hope.

ABOUT OUR IWWG OPEN MIC: We host an open mic with feature writer(s) twice a month, live via Zoom Videoconferencing. All women-identified writers are welcome to sign up for a 3-minute reading slot following the feature on a first-come-first served basis. There are usually 20 slots open, and a waiting list.
