WRITING AS BUSINESS

Designing the Perfect Book Cover

Your book cover is one of your most effective sales tools, and it has to convey the story in a way that generates interest and curiosity. In this presentation with graphics designer Sharla Wailes, learn what decisions are key in designing a book cover as a harmonious blend of font types, technical specifications, and art.

Sharla Wailes

Sharla Wailes is a graphics designer with over twenty years’ experience turning concepts into successful visual realities for local, national, and international companies. Over the past five years she has worked exclusively on Book Cover Design, allowing her to meet and work with people of many different backgrounds while sharpening her skills on uniqueness and creativity that other advertising avenues did not allow. She has designed countless book covers including some for International Women’s Writing Guild members, such as The Collection for Cathleen O’Connor and Anne Anthony, The Bird That Couldn’t Fly, for Raquel Arrechea, 100 Pennies, for Gaetane Martin and Marisa Moks-Unger’s The Picture This Anthology.
