Writing A Biography
This four-part course helps writers understand the key aspects of writing a biography. Topics include subject selection, interview sources, archival research, legal issues, literary and thematic writing options. Common challenges to biographical writing will also be addressed; information gaps, contradictory source material, family cooperation and/or its lack, and unflattering character aspects of the subject. Examples will be provided to clarify course content. Includes writing exercises and assignments. Through these sessions students will receive guidance for the essential steps to writing and completing a biographical work.
Nancy Rubin Stuart is an award-winning author/journalist whose eight nonfiction books focus upon women and social history. Among her most recent books are Defiant Brides ; The Muse of the Revolution, The Reluctant Spiritualist and the long time best-seller, American Empress. Beacon Press will publish her next book on Benjamin Franklin and his women in 2022. Among her honors are a Time Inc. scholarship at the Bread Loaf Writers Conference, a fellowship at the MacDowell Colony, and aa Performing Artist and Writers Fellowship at the American Antiquarian Society. Nancy’s work has appeared in the New York Times, Huffington Post, the New England Quarterly and national magazines. She serves as Executive Director of the Cape Cod Writers Center in Osterville, Massachusetts.
