Sherri L. Smith will be interviewed by Caitlin Gutheil about her two most recent books, Pasadena, a Young Adult noir mystery, and Who Were the Tuskegee Airmen?, a middle-grade nonfiction book.

Sherri L. Smith is the author of several novels and comics for young people, including Flygirl, the 2009 California Book Awards Gold Medalist; The Toymaker’s Apprentice, which won the 2016 SCIBA Book Award for Middle Grade; Orleans, a “cli-fi” adventure; Pasadena, which won the 2017 SCIBA Book Award for Young Adult; and Who Were the Tuskegee Airmen?, her first middle-grade nonfiction book. Her books appear on multiple state lists and have been named Amelia Bloomer and American Library Association Best Books for Young People. She teaches in the MFA in Creative Writing program at Goddard College and the MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults program at Hamline University.

Caitlin Gutheil’s writing has appeared in The Sun, Reader’s Digest, and Six Hens Journal. An excerpt from her Young Adult novel-in-progress is forthcoming in Enizagam, where it was a 2018 literary award finalist. She has received Honorable Mention in New Millennium Writings Flash Fiction awards and was a finalist for the Katherine Paterson Prize for Young Adult and Childrens Writing through Hunger Mountain, the literary journal of the Vermont College of Fine Arts. She is a member of the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance and the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and serves on the Advisory Board of the International Women’s Writing Guild. Her agent is Emily Keyes, of Fuse Literary.
