Spirit of a Woman Series

Workshop Series: Sep 9 - Oct 14, 2020
3:00 - 4:30 PM EST (noon-1:30 pm PST; 7-830 PM Ghana; 10-1130 Kenya)

Spirit of a Woman is a creative, experiential six week writing series, a journey that explores and celebrates the stages of a woman's life through poetry, storytelling, memoir, biomythography, fiction and fabulation.
Spirit of a Woman is a journey of imagination and discovery along a road paved with intent and experience. Each LifeStage is likened to a fictive territory rich with unexplored territory, gold mines, quicksand, rain forests, and ancient caves. as they travel a road paved with intent and experience
Every LifeStage is accompanied by stimulating writing exercises, handouts, images, prompts, excerpts, and related links. Participant are issued a Poetic Passport to mark their passages through the seeds of conception to the brink of birth and the throes of toddler years. They will visit the precipice of adolescence, the plains of adulthood, and the mountains of the middle ages. Their journey winds down at the sands of the senior years, the fertile desert of death and beyond.

LifeStages

One: To Be or Not To Be/ Planetary Reentry -  conception and birth.

Two: Pioneers at Play  - childhood.

Three
:Blood, Sweat, and Tears -adolescence

Four: Age of Consent - early adult years

Five:
Middle Passage - midlife

Six:
Silver Time/ Wake-up Call - elder years, end of life, transformation.
After the sixth stage of life has been completed a culminating activity involving issuance of a certificate, reading, anthology or recording of writings can be presented.

Between LifeStages participants will reflect on how their lives might have been had they faced different circumstances or made other decisions at those intersections. Writings produced in this series are affirmed, encouraged, professionally guided and received without judgment or critique. This atmosphere of acceptance creates an environment in which women can discover and uncover the power they have to write and rewrite their lives both on paper and off. The resulting effects can be poetry, fiction, theater, biography, personal essay, positive transformation, spiritual insights and more. Each LifeStage reveals  an abundance of experiences to write from, grow on, and live by.
