WORLD-BUILDING FOR GENRE FICTION (NOT JUST FANTASY) with Paula Chaffee Scardamalia

Whether you write science fiction, fantasy, horror, historical, mystery, suspense, romance or any of the many cross-overs or blends of those genres, you are creating a world for your characters and your reader. In fact, if you write fiction of almost any kind, you are creating a world.

But can you make your world believable for your reader? This workshop includes:

  • What is worldbuilding and two approaches to it with a few examples
  • What to include, what not to include and how to avoid world-building as procrastination
  • The importance of thresholds and threshold guardians for character and story
  • To map or not to map and your world as character

Includes examples of other authors’ approaches as well as handouts and Q&A.
