Free Write with Caits Meissner

In the middle of a world turned upside down by politics and the pandemic, join poet and cultural worker Caits Meissner for a lunchtime generative creative writing workshop, Anchoring in Belief: Manifestos For a Chaotic World. Over the course of this single session, participants will study a series of manifestos in the form of poems and be led in a step-by-step process towards generating their own poetic statements of belief. Whether buoy or anchor, the intention is to create drafts of poems that can be held to in troubled times as beacons of light and clarity.

Caits Meissner is the author of the illustrated hybrid poetry book Let It Die Hungry (The Operating System, 2016). The recipient of multiple residencies and fellowships including the Second Book Fellowship from Palette Poetry, the BOAAT Writers Retreat Fellowship and the One World Fellowship at The Pan-African Literary Forum, Caits's work is published in The Guardian, The Literary Review, Narrative, Adroit, Drunken Boat, The Rumpus, VIDA Literary Review, The Journal, The Feminist Wire and The Offing, among many otheroutlets. She spends her days as Director of Prison and Justice Writing at PEN America, where she is editing a community-sourced book on creating a writing life in prison that will be released January 2022 on Haymarket Books.
