Writing from the Lost and Found

We all have a conscious and a subconscious mind. Writing well requires getting the subconscious part of our mind and the conscious part of our mind to work in harmony. Tapping the subconscious—the “lost and found bin” of the mind—yields writing gems. Consulting the conscious part of our minds—the part that can figure out how to string those gems into a necklace—can, through applying craft, turn those treasures into powerful stories.

The key? Getting the subconscious part of our mind and the conscious part of our mind to work in harmony.

Much of writing instruction focuses on craft. This generative workshop offers some playful prompts that will help us experiment with tapping into the subconscious—and some strategies for getting our two minds to work in harmony. Participants will have time to write and share (optional) and leave with a handout of prompts that can be seeds for future writing.
