Publishing Stories:
Where Do Writers Begin?

Are you thinking about writing short stories? Do you have some stories already under your belt? Are you uncertain about the different categories—horror, literary, flash…? And where do you send these pieces for publication once they’re done? In this ninety-minute session, writer and editor Becky Tuch will address these questions and more. She will discuss the essential elements of short fiction, break down the different categories of stories, and guide you toward the many publishing opportunities available for writers of short fiction. Participants will come away with a deeper understanding of the form, a better grasp on the short story market, and new writing inspiration.

Becky Tuch is a writer and editor based in Philadelphia, PA. Her short fiction has been honored with awards and fellowships from Moment Magazine, Briar Cliff Review, The MacDowell Colony and The Somerville, MA Arts Council. Her stories have appeared in dozens of literary magazines including Gulf Coast, Salt Hill, Post Road, The Carolina Quarterly, Literary Mama, and the anthology Best of the Net. She is the Founder of The Review Review, a website dedicated to reviews of literary magazines, and listed for seven years in Writer’s Digest's guide to 101 Best Websites for Writers. She currently writes LitMag News Roundup, a bi-weekly newsletter dedicated to covering all the latest news in literary magazines. Learn more at www.BeckyTuch.com.
