Poetry Reading with Wanjira Muthoni & AMKA


Wanjira Muthoni is a writer from Kenya who has been a member of IWWG since 2020 and has published poetry in a number of IWWG anthologies. Wanjira will read along with fellow writers from AMKA. 






Kendi Karimi is a woman writer from Kenya. She graduated top of her class with first-class honors in Mass Communication.

Her short story, What Does It Mean To Be Kind Anyway, was shortlisted for the Wakini Kuria Prize for children’s literature in 2021 & 'Number 27' shortlisted for the African Writers Award. ‘Our Brief Heavenly Hour' has also been featured by Writers Space Africa. Her work has been recognized by BIC group and EUPA, which ' means ‘bonfire’ in Ateso, an Eastern Nilotic language from Uganda and Kenya. It is a symbol of togetherness and oneness and not an acronym.


Amanda Nechesa is a fiction writer and poet from Nairobi, Kenya. Her work has been featured in WSA-K , Kikwetu Journal, and Salamander Ink magazine. Two of her short stories are set to be published in the Qwani Anthology.

 When she is not writing, you will find Amanda dreaming about what to write next.



Jerusha Kananu Marete ,a Kenyan writer is the author of poetry anthologies titled Echoes Of Military Souls    and Marry Me a Co-wife and other Poems

She is a graduate from University Of Nairobi (English &Literature) and holds a masters in Literature from Kenyatta University.Jerusha is a teacher, a performing artist , film enthusiast and a forum theatre expert.

Her forum theatre project on use of Forum theatre for raising awareness on drugs abuse and prostitution at Mlolongo was recognized at Kenya National Film Festival in 2022 and aired on Daily Nation Newspaper

Jerusha was the award winner of AFRIKA REDEFINED INDIE BOOK PRIZE AWARD 2022

Her poems have been published in many global  anthologies and journals.


Muthoni Wa Gichuru is Kenyan author who writes for children and young adults. Muthoni’s first published novel, Breaking the Silence, was first runner-up for the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation Literature Prize, 2011. She’s a multiple Burt Award winner for African Writing.





My name is Elizabeth Opiyo from Nairobi, Kenya. I am a spoken word poet and Graphic designer. When I write,  I want to be a healing and encouraging voice. I want to  inspire and give a hope to someone.  

I am an active member of the Writers  Guild  Kenya and one of the co-authors of  'Through the Journey of Hope',  a poetry anthology.  I've also been part of the conversations that support women rights and humanity such as Anika Forum,  Fatuma's Voice,  Amnesty international,  Storymoja Festival, among others.
