Fashioning Words, Fashioning Style ($39/$49)

Is it the content or rather the wrapping of a message that counts? Linguistic theories speak of different levels and aspects of communication; one cannot look at a subject matter, without considering the appearance of it. In this workshop we will take a linguistic look at some elements in written communication, to then complete this look with a poetical exploration of clothing and fashion. We will look at research done by Robin Lakoff (US), Paul Watzlawick (AUST/US) and Janet Beavin Bavelas (CA) a.o.; for the poetic-fashion part  we will discuss the words and some signature looks of women writers like Anne Sexton, Audre Lorde and Virginia Woolf.  Ms. Woolf would often sign off invitations with “Bring no clothes”. My invite says to do bring some, for we will not only write along the discussed ideas… we will find out what memories and feelings your own favorite garments stitch down into words!
